Yobe: NERI constructs two solar powered boreholes to fulani nomads

A Non-Governmental Organization, Northeast Regional Initiative (NERI) in collaboration with Geidam local government council in Yobe state
had drilled and handed over two numbers, solar powered boreholes to Fulani nomads in vulnerable communities of Jororo and Dilawa
communities.

Commissioning and handing over the boreholes to the local government on Wednesday, NERI Senior Programme officer in the state, Abatcha Kachallah, said, the solar powered boreholes were drilled to provide portable drinking water for both human and animals’ consumption for the two communities.

Kachalla, said “the drilling of the boreholes became imperative having received complains from the communities of Jororo and Dilawa ward in
regards to water scarcity experienced by them and their animals.

“We have handed you over the ownership of the boreholes, we urge you to properly take care of them,” he said.

Receiving keys of the boreholes, the Caretaker Chairman of Geidam local government council, represented by councilor of Jororo ward,
Ibrahim Mohammed, commended NERI for the donations and promised to handle the boreholes appropriately for the purpose intended.

Some Fulani Nomads, Mallam Sheriff Umar Jororo and Ali Baushe Sule who are beneficiaries of the gesture, thanked NERI and the council for the
development and promised to take good care of the boreholes provided.

Blueprint gathered that many of the Fulani nomads were preparing to migrant to other parts of the state in search of water, but with the drilling of the boreholes, they have decided to stay in the two communities of Jaroro and Dilawa.
