Yobe state Accountability Mechanism on MNCH (YoSAMM) has called for more funding of the health sector in the state in order to improve the sector and guarantee active population.
The mechanism, after painstakingly review of the health budget from 2015 to 2017 in the state, commended the efforts of the present administration under Governor Ibrahim Gaidam, particularly his efforts to transform the health sector.
A communiqué signed by Kalli Lawan and Hauwa M. Sani on behalf of the participants and made available to journalists yesterday called for review of the declining trend of budget allocation to health sector from 2015 to 2017, pointing at what they observed as “the wide gap between the approved estimates and actual releases.
Participants also frowned at the bureaucratic bottlenecks, which delay employment of graduates of health training institutions into the state’s health institutions, and general lack of manpower to ensure functional health in the state.
The participants were drawn from the civil society organisations, the media, health professionals as well as relevant government agencies.
