Yobe: NGO trains residents on reporting sexual, gender based violence

A Non-Governmental Organisation, African Youth for Peace Development and Empowerment Foundation (AFRYDEV) with support from Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has held a 2 day capacity building on sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) prevention and response in Yobe state.

The project which targeted Potiskum local Government council is in response to human rights violations within the context of counter insurgency in the North-east.

The executive director of AFRYDEV, Miss Maryam Aje, told Blueprint that “the project was aimed at complementing government efforts in addressing GBV issues through capacity building for local actors and establishment of a workable self-sustaining platform for reporting and response”.

The chairman of Potiskum Local government council represented by Malam Lawan, commended AFRYDEV for organizing the training.

 He said GBV is one of the major issues of concern in every society and require all stakeholders to put hands together in mitigating it.
