Yobe SEMA to strengthen humanitarian activities


Newly appointed Executive Secretary, Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje has said his agency will henceforth strengthen the coordination of humanitarian activities in the state to avoid duplication of interventions.

He disclosed this Sunday in a chat with Blueprint on the plan to prioritise intervention by actors.

Goje said this could only be achieved through the capacity building of the staff in an effort to meet up challenges associated with humanitarian actors.

“We are working towards the strengthening of the humanitarian
activities, so the agency will train its staff so that it would not be
found lacking in discharging of its duties,” he said.

In order to monitor the distribution of food and non food items, the executive secretary, said much time will be spent in monitoring and evaluation, that why he made mandatory to himself by going to fields to avoid diversions.

“I have taken up this responsibility to make sure all items reach the beneficiaries as at when due and intact, my staffs are cooperating and we have started to see some successes and we will ensure its sustenance,” he said.

Blueprint gathered that the agency had recently distributed non food items to beneficiaries in Potiskum, fertilisers and seedlings to Gabai community and drugs supplied to Gujba community all in the state.
