Yobe: SWAN gets new leadership

Yobe State Director of Sports Council, Habu Abdurahman Ago, has called
on stakeholders to invest in sports development and activities so as to create employment and unity among the unemployed youths in the
country.

Ago, made the called on Saturday at the inauguration of the newly elected members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Yobe state chapter held at August 27 Stadium in Damaturu, Yobe state capital.

While advising the new leadership to inspire government through
quality reports on sporting activities in the state, the director
further, said sports activities serve as a trauma healing, especially
to those who were traumatized.

He said plans were underway to develop sports infrastructure, assuring
that SWAN would be carried along in the development process.

In his remarks, the SWAN National President, Mr. Honour Sirawo, said
SWAN had been a major stakeholder in sporting activities which led to
successes at both national and international competitions.

Those elected were Ahmed Kagana Amshi of Yobe State Broadcasting
Corporation as Chairman, Michael Oshomah of TVC as Vice Chairman, Joel
Duku of The Nation Newspaper as the secretary.

Others were Idriss Bingel as Assistant Secretary, Yunusa Sulaiman of
NTA as Financial Secretary and Musa Maina of Yobe State Television as
Treasurer of the association.

The election was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere as the
officials emerged no the various positions unopposed, being the only
members that vied for the respective posts and certified all the
stipulated conditions.

The chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists in the state and representative of the National SWAN electoral committee, Yusuf Isa, congratulated the officials and called on them to justify the confidence reposed on them.

The newly elected SWAN Secretary, Joel Duku, on behalf the other
elected officials, assured members of the association and entire Yobe
people of their determination to serve.
