Yobe: SWAN seeks early funding for National Sports Festival

 

Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN) in Yobe State is calling on the Mai Mala Buni-led government to provide funds to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Social Development to enable it cater for the state’s contingents that qualified for the forthcoming National Sports Festival, (NSF) slated for March, 2020 in Edo state.

The chairman of the association,  Ahmed Kagana Amshi, said release of funds would enable it commence early and effective  preparations for the festival which is barely two months away. 

“We call on the sports council to commence intensive trainings of the athletes as part of preparation for the National Sport Festival with a view for the state to maintain the records set during the zonal elimination series held in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

“We wish to use this medium to commend the enthusiasm demonstrated by the state athletes and the coaching crews during the events and also charge them to maintain the  same tempo and commitment at the National level of the competition by winning laurels to make the state proud,” the statement reads in part.

Amshi thanked the state  governor for the timely release of funds which facilitated the state to attend the zonal competition which the state performed credibly.

He further said SWAN as a major stakeholder in sports  promotions has resolved to create strategic synergy with the state government to achieve sports development in the state.
