Yobe tackles food security with N1.4bn tractors

The Yobe government has procured 64 Mersey Ferguson Tractors (MF 373) at the sum of N1.4 billion in order to boost food security in the state.

The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Yarima Lawan Mamud made this known Tuesday at the ongoing ministerial briefing by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Damaturu.

Mamud said his ministry during the period under review had facilitated and secured various approvals across the 17 local government areas in health, water, agriculture, education, security, roads and jointly executed projects with the state government on 60 – 40 percent basis.

He noted that, activities carried out by the ministry in the last two years of Governor Mai mala Buni’s administration include procurement of Jeep and buses to emirate councils, contribution of 50 per cent for the payment outstanding students’ scholarship, procurement of Toyota Zangol pickups for vigilantes, and construction of roads and drainages.

“Others are construction and upgrading of MCH to the status of General Hospital at Yusufari and Machina, provision of equipment and drugs to health facilities across the 17 local government areas, drilling of bore-holes, hand-pumps jointly executed with the state on the basis of 60 – 40 percent,” Yarima said.

The commissioner revealed that during the last one year, Buni in his capacity as the Chairman APC Caretaker Extra Ordinary Convention Planning Committee has succeeded in repositioning the APC to the admiration of all, saying: “For this, we shall continue to be proud of his achievements.”
