Yobe to launch education summit Monday

All is now set for the maiden education summit in Yobe state after declaring state of emergency on education in both primary and secondary levels by Governor Mai Mala Buni.

According to memo made available to State Response Committee on emergency in education by a Civil Society partner, Faruk A. Chiromari, said there is need for total overhaul of the education sector.

“The leadership of education ministry and its agencies need to be reviewed and be steadfast towards achieving excellence.  Number of qualified teachers should be checked, their welfare and training especially those posted to rural areas must be looked upon”

“Strong supervision and monitoring team should be put in place apart from renovation, reconstruction, maintenance and replacement of obsolete teaching aids”, he said.

“In order to checkmate all education activities, governments need to establish complaint, feedback and response mechanism for schools while schools in the crises areas should be converted to day schools to avoid tragedy.

The statement also suggests that, stakeholders in the grassroots be invited to key in their inputs.

While thanking the governor for taking the bull by the horn, Chiromarialso sought for increase in allocation to the education sector.

Blueprint also reports there were series of meetings by various civil society organization clusters working on education to discuss on how to engage government, saying the summit would be a reawakening for the previous policies developed.
