Yobe: Traditional leaders to record births for polio immunization

Yobe State Task force on Immunization and Primary Health Care headed by the Deputy Governor, Abubakar D. Aliyu has embarked on advocacy visit to emirate councils across the state to sensitize them on the significance of polio immunization to the new born child.
The leader of the delegation, Abubakar D. Aliyu, said they have commenced the sensitization with the Damaturu emirate council as a result of the poor turn-up and record received on the non compliance of some of the people of the emirate.
“We are starting the sensitization here in Damaturu not because it is the state capital but because of ignorance and non acceptance of the immunization by some of you in this emirate.” “Because of this, we have come to rob minds with you and to also ensure that every ward head must register all new births and also ensure they are immunized against the nine killer diseases”, he said.
In his good will message, the Commissioner of Health, Dr.
Mohammed Bello Kawuwa, said there is no reason for any child to die of these killer diseases considering that government has provided the vaccine and manpower in order to get every child immunized.
The Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Bukar ElKanemi promised to work hand in hand with the traditional leaders in his emirate to make sure they respond positively.
There were goodwill messages by representatives of development partners of WHO, UNICEF, BillGate and Dangote, among others
