Yobe: World Bank donates walking sticks, watches to the blind

A tripartite project of World Bank, federal and Yobe state governments, Yobe state Community and Social Development (CSDP) has donated walking sticks and talking watches to 209 blind men and women in Gujba local government area of the state.

The state chairman of people living with blindness, Alhaji Mai Yaskum stated this in Buniyadi on Tuesday.

Yaskum, said as blind men and women, their disability had turned their children to be their guide instead of enrolling into schools.

He said: “What government and this agency did, has helped us immensely. Our children can now go back to school instead of being guide to us.  The walking sticks helped us to be independent, while the talking watch alerts us especially for time prayers.

“136 men and 73 women got the gesture, after paying our 5 per cent contribution, the agency released the remaining balance to each of us and they were acquired through our national headquarters.  The walking stick costs N16, 000 while the talking watches N6, 000.00,” he said.
