Yoruba youth group canvasses for S/E presidency

The Yoruba Youths Solidarity Forum (YYSF) has called on all to join in the call to bring on board a president from the South-eastern region of the country.
The group said Nigerians deserve a new leadership style different from what the north and western region that have occupied the presidency since 1999 when democracy was attained has offered so far.
Its national coordinator, Comrade Salawu Abidemi Mutiu, made the call at the weekend in Abuja while briefing the media during its maiden meeting of all the eight South-western states. He stressed the need for total overhauling and restructuring of the nation.

Mutiu said he was disappointed that the bases on which Nigeria was founded has not been achieved, adding that a region has been marginalised for too long which has given rise to different unrest in the country.
He called on the national coordinator of “United for better Nigeria initiative” Mrs. Nkolika Mkparu-Okere, to collaborate with the YYSF to drive this advocacy, saying it is necessary for power to rotate to all the regions to enable all feel the impact of governance.

He said: ”The Southeast has been marginalised and we as youth feel that the basic reason why there is tension, agitations, unrest is as a result of negligence and lack of trust.

“The country was founded based on a united Nigeria, but the act that some regions feel it is a birthright to rule is a cause for concern. We the youth feel the best way to resolve unrest is to give the Southeast the opportunity to rule for at least four years.
“Who knows, they may be the Messiah we have been looking for because the north and west have disappointed the youths so we want the south east and if they don’t perform better, we will also vote them out.
“Every institutions are not working, we need reorientation, total overhauling and restructuring because we owe the upcoming generation even those yet unborn an explanation on how we effected change in the country. We are all speaking in one voice this time.”

In his welcome address, the National Secretary of YYSF and Zonal Coordinator of Ogun state chapter Comrade Olakunle Oluwaseun Ibrahim further stressed the need for a balance in politics, adding that if all inequalities were addressed the clamour for Biafra will end, there will be peace and growth of the nation.
Also, the Osun state coordinator of YYSF, Isiaka Olamide, said the marginalisation of south east from presidency was extremely uncalled for, urging relevant authorities and all citizens to join advocacy in trying a new hand in the presidency.
