— PDP will continue to rule, says Shema
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Ahmed Adamu Mu’azu, yesterday said that the journey embarked on by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, five state governors and other members of the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) would not be successful.
The chairman said this when Katsina state PDP delegates, led by Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema, paid him a courtesy visit at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
He also appealed to those who defected to the opposition party to “come back home.”
“I appeal to those who have been wronged and decided to embark on a journey that is not going to be successful to come back home, especially the five governors and others,” he said.
Mu’azu said that the rule of law would be followed under his leadership, insisting that the PDP would recover its lost ground.
He noted that though the party had lost some governors, but it should ensure that it did not lose faith in God, adding, “I am doing whatever it will take to ensure internal democracy in the party.”
Earlier, Governor Shema had said that he had every reason to be committed to the party, being the only person that emerged from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to become a governor.
He assured that the PDP would continue to rule and govern Nigeria as the only party without religious borders or ethnic barriers.
Shema said: “PDP will continue to retain power in Katsina. I will continue to work with this party to serve the purpose of this country. We have been faithful with the requirement of our party constitution”.
