Young female candidates demand inclusion in governance

The Coalition of Young Female Candidate ( CYFC) who contested various positions at the 2019 general elections has demanded an inclusion of women in governance, assuring of their capacity to deliver on portfolio’s.

National President of the coalition, Mrs. Doris Opara, made the demands on Monday in Abuja while briefing the media on the outcome of the general elections.

According to Opara, female candidates made marks in the elections, stressing the need for them to be engaged in policy making.

She restated the call for 35 per cent affirmative action to be included in the constitution.

According to her, “this is only remembered by politicians during campaigns to gain votes from women.

“Political parties should reserve some positions for women during each general election. There should be other positions such as Deputy Chairman for women not just women leader.

“Women should be given automatic tickets and free nomination forms by their political parties to enable more women contest positions.
“I therefore urge all women to rise up and fight for women inclusion in governance. Aba Women did it 1929, we can do the same in preparation for 2023.

Earlier, the coalition’s Public Relations (PRO), Adaora Onyechere, streessed the need for Nigeria’s formost electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commssion (INEC) to be reformed, and electoral laws reviewed, adding that the media should be non-partisan in reportage because they play major roles during elections.
