Youth extol Gov Udom over peaceful election

Youths in Akwa Ibom state under the aegis of Young Democratic Movenment (YDM) have lauded the state governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, for ensuring that peace reigned during the just concluded 2019 general elections in the state.

The youths made the commendation while on a courtesy visit to the state Commissioner for Special Duties and Aviation Development, Mr Akan Okon in Uyo over the weekend.

The spoke person of the group, Prince Kuseme, said even though politicians from different quarters chanted war songs suggesting that the elections would be marred by violence and irregularities, the governor maintained a peaceful disposition which made room for unruffled polls in the state.

Kuseme admonished political actors in the last elections that either won or lost to join hands with Governor Emmanuel to move the state forward, stressing that the collective growth of the state is more important that the ambition of an individual.

He, however, thanked the commissioner for his commitment to the improvement of the aviation sector of the state as well as for the warm reception accorded the group.

“We are here today to thank the governor for superintending over a peaceful election in the state. Going by the war drums beaten prior to the elections, some of us had fears that the process would be violence prone, but we thank the governor for not joining in the charade. He hung his hope on only God and God made it perfect at the end.

“Honorable commissioner, please help us convey this message to the governor that the youths of Akwa Ibom State are proud of him. We thank you, sir, for the facelift you have given to our aviation sector and again, for the warm reception,” Kuseme said.

In his response, the commissioner thanked the group stressing that the governor would continue to give his best towards a better Akwa Ibom state.

While expressing optimism that the second tenure of the governor will witness influx of more industries to the state, Okon, however, urged the group to keep supporting the government of Governor Emmanuel.

“I thank you for finding me worthy of this visit. I promise to relay the message to the governor. I will also continue to put in my best in what I do to ensure that the state moves forward,” he said.
