Youth group tasks Ayade over increased insecurity in Bakassi, others

A foremost youth group in Cross River state, Nka Ikemesit Mkparawa Essien Efik Duopeba, has appealed to Gov Ben Ayade to beef up security in Bakassi and Akpabuyo local government areas just as he has done in the state capital, Calabar.

The appeal came days after reported cases of increased in cult-related killings in those two local government areas, with at least ten persons feared killed.

Speaking through a press statement made available to our reporter in Calabar, weekend, shortly after their general meeting, the youth group lamented spates of violent crime in those two local government areas.

The statement, which was signed by the group’s Chairman, Ekpo Ekeng, Vice Chairman, Adim Ekpenyong and Secretary, Edem Bassey, said increasing the level of surveillance with the security outfit, Operation Skolombo, would stem the tide of killing in the area.

“We appeal to the Governor that he should consider those local government areas for enhanced surveillance.

“He should also empower our young men with even vocational training to keep them busy. This is the only way to stop insecurity,” the group stated.

The group also charged the state government to ensure equitable distribution of whatever it presents as empowerment for youths, and commended government in its efforts at curtailing the menace of criminalities in Calabar and environs.

The statement heaped encomium on Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, who, they said, would be honoured with the title ‘Eka Mkparawa Essien Efik Duopeba,’ as well as Prof Eyo Etim Nyong and former Minister, Edem Duke amongst many others.
