Youth leaders raise the alarm over plot to move against CBN policy

A group, Ethnic Youth Leaders Council of Nigeria (EYLCN), has raised the alarm over an alleged plot by some individuals to use $5 million to prosecute an onslaught against the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN’s) policy on cash withdrawal limits.

At a press conference Friday in Abuja, the group’s secretary, Peter Abang, warned that such a plot would be undermining President Muhammadu Buhari and the government’s policy on cash withdrawal limits.

He said: “We have however uncovered a well-oiled plot to discredit the cash withdrawal limit by politicians with stolen funds in their possession. These unscrupulous politicians are plotting to attack and undermine President Muhammadu Buhari and the government’s policy on cash withdrawal limit.

“Information at our custody is that these enemies of state have pooled over $5 million with which they hope to launch an onslaught against the policy beginning from next week.”

Explaining how the attacks would be carried out, Abang said, “Their attacks will include coordinated media manipulations, interviews, columns, articles, op-eds, and adverts.

“They will also hire and create several faceless groups to hold rallies and protests for a fee and they will address media briefings and render false statistics in order to sway the people.

“The media must be wary. They have also set out to see if there are any known groups they can convince to join their evil plot including organisations like the National Youth Council of Nigeria, National Association of Nigeria Students, some Labour unions and faith. “We, therefore, call on patriotic members of the House and all loyalists of President Muhammadu Buhari who are in the majority in the House to commence immediate impeachment proceedings against the Speaker for abusing his office and endangering the lives of Nigerians and our national security.”
