Youth urged to embrace agriculture

Secretary to Koko/Besse local government area of Kebbi state, Alhaji Umar Gulumbe, has charged youth be self-employed by supporting the federal government agricultural diversification programme.

He gave this charge Tuesday while fielding questions from newsmen in Birnin Kebbi the state capital, noting that promoting agricultural sector will go a long way in reducing the high rate of poverty, crime and unemployment in the country.

Gulumbe, who also commended the effort of the state government in sustaining the rice Anchor Borrowers programme facilitated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) urged beneficiaries to make the best use of the opportunity by cultivating rice and other crops.

“We thank President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Atiku Abubakar Bagudu for supporting us on rice production. We have confidence in their administrations because this is the only remedy for the nation to survive by engaging the youth fully into agriculture,” he said.

He said Koko/Besse local government has been crime free since the assumption of the present administration, and commended Governor Bagudu for working hand in hand with the security agencies in the state to ensure peace.
