Youths, agents of national devt – Maikasuwa

Youths are expected to be proactive and agents for sustainable national development and peace in a united Nigeria, according to Dr. Salisu Abubakar Maikasuwa, a former Clerk of the National Assembly (CNA).

In a lecture he delivered, titled: “The Role of the Youth in the Promotion of Peace and Sustainable Development in a United Nigeria” on the occasion of 2016/17, KESPO graduation day of the Keana students’ forum of the Nasarawa State University (NASU) at Keana on Monday.

He also said the youth must demonstrated good leadership qualities and visionary attitude in their approach to issues.

Maikasuwa also said such attributes will help in accelerating development and help to reduce conflicts for positive growth in line with the “change begins with me” campaign recently mounted by the federal government.

The youth, Maikasuwa said, should try to be people oriented, honest, forward looking, competent, and imaginative apart from being transparent and committed leaders.

The former CNA also urged the youth to identify themselves with government programmes which will lead to the economic recovery and growth plan of this nation since the youth are agents of positive change.

They should also participate in anti-corruption crusade fighting against corruption and looting of public funds, tax evasion, electoral malpractices, drug smuggling and other evil activities.

Maikasuwa said for the youth to achieve in succeeding these laudable objectives, they must embrace the “change begins with me” philosophy which he described as a government strategic value re-orientation campaign idea and that it will help the country.

According to him, “there is disrespect for constituted authorities and lack of respect for elders in our society which is threatening our political stability, economic and social development.”
