Youths urged to trust APC administration’s plans on empowerment

A federal lawmaker representing Shendam Quaan-pan Mlkan Constituency of Plateau State Hon, Komsol Longgap Alphonsus, has called on Nigerian youths to stop doubting the promises made by President Muhammad Buhari to empower them through creation of employment opportunities.

The parliamentarian urged the youths to be patient and await the implementation of the programmes outlined for them by the government “because none of their demands can be implemented immediately without proper planning.”

Alphonsus who spoke in an interview with newsmen said adequate provisions would be made in the 2021 budget to cover the five-point demands of the youth and also to sustain some of the empowerment initiatives introduced by the present administration.

“I wish to place on record the fact that no government before now has initiated the types or even the number of empowerment programmes targeted at the youth and women like the present APC administration.

“I challenge anybody to prove me wrong. We need to appreciate this government for what has been put in place. After the #EndSARS, the government started looking for how to resolve all the issues raised by the youths.

“Even in my constituency, we have done a lot for the youth by paying JAMB and WAEC fees for some of them who could not afford the fees apart from granting scholarships to many of them.

“We have also mapped out programmes for them in the 2021 budget including providing laptop computers for them and we would carry the programmes through to complete them,” he said.

He also called on the ASUU to call off its strike and allow students to return to classes saying that the government will not fail to fulfill its promises and improve the conditions of living for the people.

The lawmaker stated that the National Assembly has met and interfaced with ASUU members to make them see reason to return to classes.

He urged the leadership of ASUU and members to consider the plight of their students who have been at home for more than six months now and reconsider their position on the strike.
