Youths will no longer serve as thugs to politicians, PDP aspirant says

A former official of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and aspirant to the office of National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Comrade Franklyne Edede has promised that he would do everything in his power to stop the use of youths as thugs by politicians if he is elected into office come November 9.

Edede who made this promise Tuesday after obtaining his nomination form at the PDP national secretariat, promised proper integration of youths in the affairs of the party.

He also berated those championing micro zoning of offices, saying the practice breeds mediocrity, which at the end, does more harm than good.

“We have been misused and underutilized. We are tired of being used as thugs. Youths have not been properly integrated in the party. Youths have been turned to thugs. My emergence will address this issue,” he said.

On micro zoning, he stated: “If you look at the so-called micro zoning, I am from Imo state. For now, only one person aspiring for the National Youth Leadership of our party is not from Imo.

“Micro zoning does not bring anything positive. It promotes mediocrity and as far as this party is concerned, the youths of this party have said these people who are responsible for this micro zoning should have a rethink because it is not going to be business as usual.

“We are not in power, that is one thing that is working against micro zoning. If we had had the Presidency, people like us, with enormous strength, energy and capacity would have buried our interest but we are not in power so we cannot allow our generation to continue to waste because of people up there who are already established.”

He promised to mobilize youths across the country for “Creative and innovative engagement,” to enable them participate actively in the political governance of the country.

Meanwhile, an aspirant to the National Organizing Secretary of the party, Dr. Emeka Wachuku has called on the National Caretaker Committee (NCC) to adopt an open secret ballot system in the conduct of the elective convention.

Wachuku stated this in a chat with journalists shortly after submitting his nomination forms at the Wadata Plaza, national secretariat of the PDP.

On the alleged support by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for Col. Austin Akobundu (retd) for same office, Wachukwu said he was unaware, arguing that as a leader and father of the State, the governor was expected to support the aspiration of all.

“My governor is the leader of the party in the State. As the father of the state, he is expected to support every aspirant from Abia State,” he said, stressing that having joined the PDP in 1999, he has all it takes to inject fresh ideas in the running of the affairs of the party as organizing secretary.
