The protesters who gathered at the gate of the Ministry with different banners and placards called on the Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun to urgently release the funds to them.
Some of the placards read ‘YouWin is not to acquire certificate’, [release our funds’, among others.
Speaking to journalists, a representative of the protesting YouWin participants, Folurunsho Temitope, said they resorted to the protest after all other avenues of dialogue failed.
According to him letters were written to the Minister, the two chambers of the National Assembly and the office of the Vice President without getting any response.
Temitope wondered why the Federal Government would take them through such a rigorous process only to abandon them after giving them certificates of participation.
“I don’t think we were called winners based on our certificate,” he added’ On reports that the government has stopped funding the programme, Temitope said that they have not been told that the government has stopped funding for the programme.
In the 2018 Appropriation Bill, The federal government set aside N100 billion for YouWin programme.
According to Director Information, Hassan Dodo, the clarification became necessary because many participants in the programme had sought information on how their businesses could be supported, having completed the second phase of the YouWin Connect Capacity Building.
