Yuletide: Are our roads safe?

Considering the current insecurity across the country, travelling by road is one of the nightmares threatening the lives of people that are carrying out business from one place to another. The road network in some areas, precisely, in Northwest region, is bad. Despite the efforts of security operatives in controlling the roads, they remain unsafe.

A series of horrible attacks have been witnessed on Abuja-Kaduna highway lately. Many people were attacked by bandits and millions of naira was collected as ransom. The effective solutions to protect the lives and properties of people depend on enhancing security that will be monitoring a wide range of movement on highways because travelling by road is preferred as it is cheapert. The government should carry out awareness campaigns to enable motorists and passengers to stay vigilant.

Travellers should be mindful of the current security situation in the country. In almost every region of Nigeria, each state is facing a similar case of road blockage by bandits and killing scores of people mercilessly. It is happening due to massive use of roads by the people; they use heavy weapons to break through the interconnected roads alongside deserted areas where there are security agents.

As the yuletide approaches, people from different places will travel to spend the holidays with loved ones. However, travelling by road is undeniably insecured, especially at this time when bandits operate on the roads. Thus, it is advisable that travellers are security conscious during the yuletide.
