Nasarawa state command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed about 1,000 officers across the state to protect lives on the highways during the festive period.
Sector Commander, Mrs. Fautina Alegbe, stated this in an interview with newsmen in Lafia yesterday.
Alegbe described the festive period as critical for the FRSC, which should not be taken lightly hence the deployment of the officers and men of the corps in the state to forestall any unfortunate eventuality on highways.
“We are just some few days away from the Christmas, and so we have prepared enough. We already have our men everywhere. We have them in patrol vehicles in Keffi, Akwanga, at the sharp bend in Nasarawa Eggon and other parts of the state,” she said.
She added that the command went further by putting up a camp in Akwanga local government area called “Accident Help Area” where some officers are domiciled to always be on alert in case there is any accident in the area and neighbouring towns.
Alegbe also revealed that mobile court activities were on top gear in Lafia and Nasarawa-Eggon local government areas to bring those who disobey road traffic regulations to justice with the hope of reducing road traffic violators on the highways.
She then advised motorists, especially commercial drivers, to take necessary precautions before embarking on any journey and to avoid overloading as it is a crime to humanity and contributes to road traffic crashes on highways.
