Anambra state police command, on Tuesday, warned against abuse of fire works such as knock-outs, fire crackers and others, saying it poses a ‘serious’ security risk and capable of misleading security agencies especially in the eve of Christmas and New year festivities.
The state Police Commissioner, CP John Abang, in a release signed on his behalf by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Haruna Muhammed, equally charged officers attached to very important personalities to refrain from unauthorised sporadic shooting or face prosecution.
“The use of Knock-outs, fire crackers and other forms of fireworks in the State also constitute a serious security risk as it is capable of misleading the Police and other Security Agencies on apparent danger of gunshots as well as engender fear in the minds of the peace loving citizens.
“In view of this, parents and guardians are strongly advised to warn their children and wards from purchasing and using knockouts as the law governing the sales, purchase and use of Fireworks is still in Force. The CP has also warned personnel attached to VIPS to adhere strictly on rules guiding use of firearms and refrain from unauthorized sporadic shootings on air as any officer found violating such order would be dealt with in accordance with the laid down procedure,” it said.
It further wished Anambra residents and others returning home for period of the festivities peaceful celebrations, assuring that the command would intensify its raids on black spots and criminal hideouts in order to deny miscreants and criminal elements the opportunity to operate within the State throughout the season.
