The police at Wuye Division of the Federal Capital territory (FCT), said they have received operational order from the state command regarding the yuletide and have drawn their own plan to contain the situation on ground.
A top police source at the division, told Blueprint that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO)), CSP John Emega, has already mobilised his men for a “robust vehicular, foot patrol and surveillance of the area to ensure a hitch-free yuletide”.
The source said yuletide period is not unassociated with a lot of events and crimes hence; the police area of responsibility needs to be fortified.
He noted that, the police of the division knowing the area of coverage and guided by the operational order, have mapped out areas of gathering during the period, worship places, social events, vulnerable and nipping points with a view to fortifying them before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
“Certain criminals knowing their modus operandi, have been caged especially in the prisons, in order to allow a crime-free yuletide; the command especially Wuye division, is, watching to see that, such perpetrators do not find their way into the society”, he said.
He warned residents to be security conscious during the period ensuring that: vehicles are properly parked and locked, valuables not carelessly displayed, premises locked up at night, engage in neighborhood watch, and avoid dark spots and proper lightening of premises amongst others.
Meanwhile, people embarking on trips during the period are warned not to put their eggs in one basket by carrying their ATM cards with them.
The DPO was quote to have said that, the visibility policing introduced by the Inspector-General(IG) police has deterred criminals for perpetrating certain crimes, saying for sometimes in Abuja, and environs, the visibility of police on the highways, nipping and vulnerable points has to a large extent, reduced crime.
He said: “the rate of kidnapping particularly and bag snatching in the town all, have drastically reduced because of police men being visible in the city and the highway”.
