Zamfara: Bandits kill 39 in a reprisal attack


No fewer than 39 innocent people have been killed by the group of recalstrant Bandits in a reprisal mission in Faru district of Maradun local government area of Zamfara state.


In a telephone conversation with Blueprint, resident of Faru, Malam Lawali Ahmad Faru said the bandits raided the town at around 4:30 pm on Thursday and began shooting sporadically on innocent people, in the process, 39 people mainly men died.


He said the bandits trailed farmers who are busy working in their farms open fire on many of them during the invasion.


According to him, the Bandits was said to be on reprisal mission following the arrest and killing of two bandits by the group of vigilantes known as Yansakai Group along Mafara- Faru road who were arrested with two AK-47 riffles on Wednesday.


“As I am talking to you now, 39 bodies of our people killed by the Bandits were kept at Faru Primary Health Care Center in the presence of troops attached to the area and other sister security personnel for burial according to Islamic right this morning and our people went to the bush searching for those who have attacked by the Bandits while working in their various farms, Lawali stated.


When contacted by our correspondent, the state police Command Public Relations Officer Sp. Muhammad Shehu confirmed the incident, saying only 35 people lost their lives as a result of the attack by recalstrant Bandits in the area. 


“Already joint task forces comprising military, police, NSCDC have been deployed to the area and normalcy has been restored right away”. Sp. Shehu stated.
