Zamfara commissioner advocates gender equality, free education for women

The Zamfara state Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Lawal Gummi, has advocated for free girl-child access to education and gender equality among women in all aspects of human endeavours.

The commissioner stated this when she led thousands of women on a courtesy visit Tuesday, to Zamfara state Deputy Governor, Barr. Mahdi Aliyu Gusau as part of her ministry’s activities to commemorate the International Women’s Day 2020.

According to her, girl-child education and gender equality among women needed to be given serious attention by the state government for better society as the contributions of women can never be overemphasised.

According to her, they were at the deputy governor’s office to solicit the support of the state government on how to assist her ministry to focus on women and children development, particularly in the area of education, healthcare delivery, gender equality among others.

“I want to appeal to all relevant stakeholders in the state to give more support to girl-child education and gender equality in the area of public service, health, Security, freedom and other relevant issues relating to their living standard improvement as we are the bedrock of national integration and development “. She said.

Responding, the deputy governor, Barr. Mahdi Aliyu Gusau, commended the women affairs ministry under the leadership of Hajiya Zainab Lawal Gummi for commemorating the 2020 International Women’s Day.

According to him, the state government under the leadership of Governor Bello Matawalle had declared a state of emergency on education and set to empower over 344,400 women with N20,000 each for the next four years for them to become self-reliant, adding that the gesture will be sustained.
