Zamfara govt proposes new tax law

Zamfara state Tax Harmonisation Committee is making preparations for the presentation of a propose legislation to the House of Assembly to harmonise internal revenue generation in the state.

The chairman of Tax Harmonisation Committee, Hon. Bello Dankade, who stated this at an interactive session with the officials of the Growth and Employment in states (GEMS 3), a DFID-funded programme, said the legal frame work would spell out the interest of three tiers of government.
Dankande, who is the council chairman of Bakura local government area, urged members of the committee to demonstrate commitment to achieve the vision.

According to him, revenue generation is key to societal development in the area of providing infrastructure.
The GEMS 3 tax specialist, Mr. Silva Oyet, said the collection of internal revenue to be effective, there must be a legislation to harmonise the operation.                 Oyet said GEMS 3 intervention in tax was aimed at improving the internal revenue base of the state and local government areas.
