Zamfara killings: Dansadau wants Jonathan to sack IGP

A delegate at the ongoing National Conference, Senator Saidu Mohammed Dansadau yesterday called on President Goodluck Jonathan to, as a matter of urgency, sack the Inspector General of police, Mohammed Abubakar, over the killings of 100 defenceless people at Unguwar Galadima in Dansadau Emirate of Maru local government of Zamfara state.
Senator Dansadau made the call while briefing journalists on the killings.

He appealed to the president to remove the IGP over alleged his role in the killings and for not carrying out his constitutional duties.
The lawmaker also called on the president to sack the AIG Zone 10, the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police and the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Dansadau Emirate for their alleged complicity in the mass murder and also pay compensation to families of the victims.

He said: “The leader of the armed bandits who killed our people on Saturday 5th April 2014, who threatened to continue to kill people was arrested at the instances of the Zamfara state governor Abdulaziz Yari was within few days released by the police.”
He called on the government to quickly convene security summit for Zamfara state where ordinary people would have the opportunity to convey their grievances to the government.

“We urge Mr. President to act urgently on these issues. We are not interested in giving ultimatum or intimidating anybody but I have to be frank to say failure to act on these issues will compel us to engage human right lawyers.
“The fundamental questions now begging for answer are: Who is responsible forSaturday 5th massacre of over one hundred people, wasting of about one hundred and fifty cows and destruction of properties. Was it the armed bandits or the police who released their leaders who made the threats to continue to kill people, or the state government which fails to discharge it minimum responsibility of protecting life and properties of its people.

“The peak of the heinous crime is the gory massacre in the afternoon of Saturday, 5th April, 2014of over 100 people, the burning of about 300 motorcycles and carting away of about 150 heads of cattle’s used for animal traction by a group of armed robbers cattle rustlers and invaders who operate around the cluster of villages located within the Dansadau Emirate and scattered around neighbouring villages in Kaduna, Katsina and Kebbi states and whose daring boldness are rising by the day.”
