Zamfara massacre: Yari’s attitude questionable –Kera

A communication strategist and Managing Director, Keraweb Media Ltd, Alhaji Dahiru Hassan Kera, has berated the Zamfara state Governor, Abdul’aziz Yari, over what he described as “his brazen show of unconcern and half-heartedness on the killings of over 40 villagers by armed bandit in the state.”
In a statement issued in Abuja yesterday, Kera said the governor was in Abuja when the incident happened and instead of him to go back to his state to ascertain the situation and sympathise with the people.
According to the statement, he lackadaisically proceeded to Daura in Katsina state with his colleagues to see President Muhammadu Buhari.
“In a democracy, it’s a cardinal responsibility for government to protect lives and properties of citizens and in a situation where leaders cannot guarantee protection of their people from external and internal aggression, that leadership has failed and needs to be questioned,” the statement read in part.
The media strategist wondered how a meeting with the president could be more important than the lives of 40 citizens.
“Donald Trump was in Florida yesterday to console and share their sorrow on the 17 victims of the Parkland Shooting. Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar of Bauchi state had to cut short his busy schedule in Abuja and went to Misau to console them on the death of 23 students and he was also in Kano today to visit the two only survivors of the accident who are receiving treatment at Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital. Meanwhile, Governor Abdul’aziz Yari was busy and gladsomely taking pictures with President Buhari in Daura at a time we are mourning the reckless and barbaric killings of 40 villagers in his state.”
Kera said it was therefore not surprising that Yari had been accused of complexity and conspiracy on the killings by Senator Kabiru Marafan Gasau.
He stressed the need for security agencies in the country to set up a judicial commission of inquiry to “thoroughly investigate the allegations raised by Senator Marafa on the floor of the Senate and during an interface with some stakeholders in the state because they are too weighty to ignore.”
