Zamfara: Matawalle receives 50,000 APC defectors

At least 50,000 All Progressives Congress (APC) members from Bukkuyum, Gummi and Maradun local government areas of Zamfara state defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday tin Zamfara state.

The defectors were formally received by Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle at Government House, Gusau.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, chairman of APC in Maradun LGA, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Gamagiwa, said their decision to join PDP was to assist Governor Bello Matawalle develop the state and raise it to greater level.

Gamagiwa further commended the governor on his sense of maturity, particularly in tackling insecurity which bedevilled the state for almost a decade.

“Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle deserves a pass mark, considering how he restored peace and progress through peace dialogue initiatives with bandits in the state and being the son of Maradun local government, we must complement his efforts and join hands with him to develop our state,” Gamagiwa said.

He urged the new PDP members from Gummi, Bukkuyum and Maradun local government areas to support the governor and abide by the constitution governing the PDP for the overall success of the party come 2023 general elections.

In his goodwill message, Zamfara state chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Ibrahim Mallaha, promised to carry every member along for the success of the party ahead of the 2023 contest.

“All PDP members, whether new or old, will be given equal opportunity in Zamfara state and we shall strive to ensure progress of our party in the state,” Mallah said.

Speaking earlier, Governor Bello Matawalle thanked all the defectors for finding a new home in PDP, urging them to remain law abiding citizens as his government will do everything possible to add value to their lives
