Zamfara mulls Qur’anic recitation centre

As part of efforts to boost Qur’anic education and memorisation, the Zamfara state government has concluded arrangement to establish modern Qur’anic recitation centre in Gusau, the state capital.

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle stated this at the opening ceremony of the ongoing 23th state Qur’anic recitation competition Monday at the State Universal Basic Education Board teachers training centre, Gusau.

According to him, when established, the centre will give emphasis on teaching the the Qur’an and memorisation among students with a view to having more Qur’anic memorisers in the state.

“This centre if established, will teach Qur’anic education and research development, so as to have more Qur’anic memorisers in the state and I will use my personal wealth to start the Holy Qur’an recitation centre project before the government comes in,” Matawalle stated.

On the desecration of the Qur’an by some elements in the state, Governor Matawalle pointed out that, anybody found wanting will be prosecuted according to Islamic law regardless of his position in the state.

” Government will do everything possible to ensure, through investigation against those accused of the abominable desecration of the Holy Qur’an and ensure that justice prevails as well as prosecution of those found wanting among them in the dastardly act no matter their status in the state,” Matawalle stressed.

In his remarks, Zamfara state chairman council of chiefs also the emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad Anka, called on religious, traditional and community leaders to give their children emphasis on Islamic knowledge and western education for a better future.
