Zamfara State Police Command has apprehended 15 suspects who took part in the riot which led to the blocking of Kaura Namoda- Gusau highway on Monday.
The state Commissioner of Police CP Hussaini Rabiu stated this while parading the suspects to Newsmen at the command headquarters in Gusau Tuesday.
The Commissioner said the organized crime was perfected by some conflict entrepreneurs, using other unpatriotic citizen from Kurya Madaro and Maguru Districts in kauran Namoda LGA in order to undermine the efforts of security agencies and state government in tackling the activities of recalcitrant bandits and other criminal elements who have been making lives unbearable.
According to him, exhibits recovered from the suspects includes, four (4) Locally Fabricated guns, One (1) Cutlass, One (1) catapult, Three (3) plugs used for the Locally Fabricated guns, Rolls of Charms and Six (6) Operational Motorcycles.
He explained that despite the presence of security operatives coupled with their efforts to persuade the rioters to disperse back to their respective homes peacefully without using force, the rioters turned down the security operatives and even attempted to attack them.
“Our security operatives being professionally trained to handle this kind of situation, eventually dispersed the them and restored normalcy without losing any life from both sides”. He said.
He lamented that, instead of putting all hands on deck to support the Government and Security agencies to restore lasting peace and tranquility in the state, but the conflict enterpreneurs are always sabotaging our efforts by sponsoring youths to become violent and unproductive in the society.
“The youths who should have been in school pursuing their educational carrier in order to become good Future Leaders are being used to perpetrate violent activities in the state”. Cp. Hussaini Rabiu stated.
He then warned unpatriotic elements that henceforth, the Police under his watch will not take it lightly with any person or group who tries to disrupt peace implementation initiative in Zamfara State, calling on parents and guardians to take proper control of their children against any attempt by these conflict entrepreneurs to involve them into an act of criminality.
He said the Command is conducting discreet investigation, using the suspects arrested and other intelligence gathering assets at the police disposal to unravel the circumstances behind yesterday’s unrest.
“This will enable us to fish out the organizers of the riot and their collaborators so as charge them to court for prosecution to serve as deterrence to others”.
