Zamfara procures solar refrigerators for immunisation vaccines

Zamfara state government has ordered for the procurement of modern new solar refrigerators for distribution and installation to all the 147 wards in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Kabiru Janyau, who disclosed this while receiving the executive members of the state MNCH Coalition in his office, said the idea was aimed at meeting the national immunisation policy.                                According to him, plan is also underway for the establishment of a cold store in each ward.

Janyau, however, said the supply of the equipment would be carried out in phases in partnership with the support of the national primary health care development agency.
He said the project had been designed to complement the efforts of routine immunisation stakeholders towards strengthening immunisation coverage across the 36 states of the federation.

Speaking earlier, the state coordinator of the MNCH coalition, Ibrahim Tudu, who was represented by Lawali Isa Bungudu, said they were in his office to brief him on the outcome of the coalition’s state cold stores assessment with a view to overcoming the emerging gaps.

He said only 33 out of the 147 political wards in the state were yet to have cold stores, adding that only 60 out of the 127 existing solar refrigerators across 14 local government areas were functional.
