Zamfara Rep empowers 1,500 women

 

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Anka/Talata/Mafara of Zamfara federal constituency, Dr. Lawal Hassan Anka, has empowered 1,500 less privileged women to improve upon their living conditions.
Presenting goats, sewing machine and other items to the beneficiaries yesterday in Anka, Lawal said the gesture was to ensure that the privileged women engage in small scale businesses at their door steps so as to reduce the socio-economic hardship being faced.
Dr Lawal, who was represented by the wife of the state governor, Hajiya Asama’u Abdulaziz Yari, said 1,000 women were given one goat each, while 500 of them were also given sewing machine each, respectively.
Hajiyan Abdulaziz Yari described the empowerment scheme by the National Assembly member as a welcome development as it would touch the lives of less-privileged women in his constituency, stressing that the
beneficiaries were selected from 21 wards across Anka and Talata-Mafara federal constituency, respectively.
Hajiya Asma’u then enjoined the beneficiaries to make good use of what they were given judiciously and approximately for their socio-economic potentials to thrive.
In his good will message, Zamfara state chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Lawal Abubakar Kaura, who was represented by his Zonal Vice Chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Maikwarya Gummi, commended the member for his concern for his people and described the empowerment scheme as a welcome development.
The party chairman, however, appealed to all National Assembly members to emulate Dr. Lawal Hassan Anka for the improvement of the living standard of the people who voted them into power.
In her remarks, the commissioner for women and children affairs, Hajiya Bilkisu Ibrahim Bungudu, lauded the efforts of Dr. Lawal Hassan Anka on women empowerment, calling on him to sustain the programme for more women to benefit.
