Zamfara to Marafa: Stop negative campaign against govt

Gusau

Zamfara state government has cautioned Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa, representing Zamfara Central, to stop “negative campaigns against Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar and the state government over the current security challenges in the state.
The government specifically described the senator’s recent call for a state of emergency in the state as callous, unwarranted and an attempt to put undue pressure on the governor.
Speaking through the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Sanda Muhammad Danjari at a press conference in Gusau, the Zamfara state capital yesterday, government said its silence on the unguarded utterances on the floor of the senate was simply to allow for peace to reign.
While commending the senate for the outright rejection of the call, government advised Marafa to apply restraint in comments about the state, particularly on issues that have to do with the security of lives and properties so as not to brew more challenges to the state.
“Security challenge remains a global predicament. The war in Libya and
other African countries in the world led to the proliferation of weapons in the West Africa sub-region, Nigeria inclusive.
“Today states like Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Taraba, Benue among others are facing similar challenges occasioned by armed banditry, cattle rustling and kidnapping but none of the senators representing those states indicted their governors,” he said.
He assured that the state government was doing all it could do to improve the security situation of the state as about N15 billion has so far been committed to improve security situation across the state.
