Zamfara to reintroduce teachers’ college system

Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara state has said his administration will soon reintroduce the teachers college system of education across the state.

A statement signed by the director general, press affairs to the governor, Yusuf Idris stated that the intention of the state government is to  have  professional and qualified teachers in the state.

At a meeting with the 14 local government council chairmen of the state held at the governor’s lodge, Kaduna, the governor said he is determined to revive the quality of the state’s teachers and teaching through the reintroduction of the teachers training colleges scrapped by previous administrations.

He stated that when the teachers’ quality  improves, the required academic standards would  be achieved because the colleges are the only schools established with the sole objective of training teachers in the country which played tremendous role in shaping the academic pursuits of Nigerians in the past.

Governor Matawalle further said that a pilot comprehensive secondary school would be constructed in each of the senatorial districts of the state that would be financed by the state and the local government councils.

Matawalle stated that his administration is looking at the possibility of buying off the Bafarawa Institute in Shinkafi for utilisation under the state university and some departments would be located in Shinkafi town.
