Zaria power accident: Kaduna Electric announces 6 fatalities

The management of Kaduna Electric has lamented the power surge which occured in Gwargwaje community, Zaria, Kaduna state, noting that six persons lost their lives, and that the company has taken measures to avoid a recurrence.  

A statement issued by the company’s Head of Corporate Communication, Malam Abdulazeez Abdullahi, Tuesday, said contrary to some reports, its investigations revealed that six people died from the incident, adding that it has reached out to the family of the victims and it is liaising with the traditional institutions and security agencies on the next steps.  

The management of Kaduna Electric has said that its “investigations so far revealed that six persons lost their lives in the unfortunate electrical incident that occurred in Zaria last week.

“While sending its condolences to the families of the deceased, it has taken measures to avert a reoccurrence,” the statement said. 

According to Abdulazeez Abdullahi, “In the cause of its investigations, the company’s officials visited Gwargwaje community and met with families of the affected persons on three occasions since the incident to mourn with them and gather relevant information on the incident.”

The management said releasing the fatality figure became necessary in view of the need to correct the erroneous information being peddled by a section of the media.
