Zaria LG bars royal children from traditional mock durbar

The chairman of Zaria local government area of Kaduna state, Engr Aliyu Ibrahim, has suspended the royal children traditional durbar usually held after the traditional Sallah durbar for security reasons.
Addressing journalists on the outcome of a security committee meeting, the Special Adviser on Media to the chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Rilwan, said the decision to suspend the children’s event was informed by expected security threat in the area as some children were in the habit of carrying weapons during the event.
He stated the committee had advised the council to suspend the event till further notice for fear of any possible breach of security.
Alhjai Rilwan complained that some irresponsible people, especially youths were noticed supplying the children with assorted weapons to brandish during the event.
“The situation if allowed to continue will bring insecurity in our area which will be very difficult to address in the long run,” the media aide stated.
Shedding more light on the meeting, the chairman, Jama’atu Nasril Islam In the area, Sheik Ahmad Makari, said that they supported the decision of the committee suspending the traditional event.
“Once there is likelihood of breach of security among citizen, any responsible government could take similar decision to safe guard lives and property of the populace,” he said.
