Zazzau Emirate: Kaduna govt suspends kingmaker

The Kaduna state government has suspended the Wazirin Zazzau and chairman of the Zazzau Emirate kingmakers, Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu, over the selection and installation of the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli.

A letter of suspension was sent to him from the Ministry of Local Government signed by the permanent secretary, Musa Adamu, on behalf of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Jafaru Sani.

Four of the five kingmakers, Wazirin Zazzau, Alhaji Ibrahim Aminu; Limamin Kona, Alhaji Sani Aliyu; Limamin Zazzau, Alhaji Dalhat Kasimu, and Makama Karami Zazzau, Alhaji Mahmoud Abbas, were on November 12 issued queries for failing to attend a coronation meeting summoned by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in his office.

Blueprint learnt that the meeting was in preparation for the presentation of staff of office to the new Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, the 19th Emir of Zazzau, which took place on November 9, 2020.

It was not clear if the Fagacin Zazzau, Alhaji Umar Muhammad was also issued query like his colleagues.

Waziri chaired the selection process of the new Emir of Zazzau. It was understood that the Waziri, Limamin Kona, and Limamin Jumma’a voted for Iyan Zazzau, while Fagaci Zazzau voted for Yarima and Makama Karami voted for Turaki during the initial selection.

However, Governor el-Rufai jettisoned the selection and ordered the kingmakers to carry out another process following which Ambassador Ahmed Bamalli was appointed.
