Zimbabwe-bred Nigerian, Shelly Usman speaks on beauty, entrepreneurship

Shelly Usman was born in Zimbabwe to a Nigerian father and a German mother. She came to Nigeria in 2018 when she was 19 years old having lived all her life in Zimbabwe. In three years of her sojourn in her fatherland she had floated a saloon, a lounge, a supply company, a make-up line and was looking forward to adding a beauty aesthetics company to the collection.

As a stunningly beautiful woman, her pitching a tent in the beauty space comes as no surprise as she explains in this interview, highlighting what beauty means to her.

She narrates, “ Beauty is power to me that’s what it means because when you’re beautiful a lot of attention is on you and everyone today, men or women focus on their health and looks when they make money. When you look good you attract a certain class of people

How beauty defines a woman making it in life is, I would leave this quote on Beyoncé’s voice “ Mama said you’re a pretty girl , fix your hair , fix your teeth , what you wear is all that matters, So I advise every lady to work on themselves.”

Shelly Usman has had a long journey to success even though at 22 she could steal a sigh of relief and a smug smile. She tried to be a music artist and a model, but didn’t make much success of it until she stood her ground as an entrepreneur.

“I moved to Nigeria to start my life as an adult and to know more about my culture … Zimbabwe is a peaceful country but I would prefer Nigeria because it has so many opportunities like they say it’s a country of “Greenland”. To make it in the business that I do, first is capital and then commitment. It’s not easy at all, especially now that everyone does partially the same business, competition is high but we just have to be smart and use certain tactics to get far, she said.

“How my inspiration to become a young CEIO came about was because I had a vision and I executed it. I want to be great in life and these are the first steps of becoming great. I had help from my boyfriend, as they say, nobody makes it alone in life. With his help I was able to execute my vision. My philosophy of life is work hard and think smart, stay committed and be nice to people because we never know who will be our helper tomorrow,” she added.
