Zulum allocates 24 furnished houses to primary school teachers 

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno state has allocated 24 furnished houses built by his  administration and commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari to mark 2022 World Humanitarian Day recently in Maiduguri and located at Bulumkutu Abuja area of Maiduguri metropolis to teachers.

The teacher’s quarters at Bulumkutu, along old Jos road, is one of the over 600 capital projects executed by the governor in his first tenure of office.

Borno state government allocated the fully furnished 24 units of the houses to primary school teachers from Maiduguri and Jere Local Education Authority (LEA) during a brief ceremony Wednesday.

Lawan Abba Wakilbe, the Borno state Commissioner for Education, while handing over the houses to beneficiaries, stated that government has constructed similar edifices in Banki town in  Bama local government area.

He also said Zulum’s administration will extend such projects to other local government areas in order to provide accommodation for hardworking teachers in the LGAs.

The commissioner added that beneficiaries were selected based on merit from different schools within the vicinity of the quarters. He charged teachers to take good care of the facility as it is an institutional property. 

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Housing and Energy, Yuguda Saleh Vungas, whose ministry constructed the quarters, while handing over the keys to the Commissioner for Education, Wakilbe, for onward allocation to teachers, stated that the houses consisted of 12 units each of fully furnished two bedrooms, a parlour, kitchen and two self contained toilets, while 12 are fully furnished one bedroom, a parlour, kitchen and toilet.

The executive chairman, Teaching Service Board (TSB), Professor Suleiman Bello, executive chairman of  Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Bulama Kagu, chairman, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Borno state, Comrade Jibrin Mohammed, immediate deputy national chairman, NUT, Comrade Bulama Abiso, took turns to commend Professor Zulum’s policies and programmes in enhancing teachers’ welfare and the need to re-dedicate themselves to their duties.
