Borno state governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, Tuesday, awarded scholarships to 300 orphans of slain CJTF, hunters and vigilante groups fighting insurgency in the state.
Chairman of the 10-man high powered committee, Hon Barr Kaka Shehu Lawan, in his welcome address, recalled how the governor on June 1, 2022 set up a committee to look into the fallen heroes’ families with a view to awarding them scholarship to continue their education.
The committee worked closely with the CJTF and vigilante volunteers groups to get the best results of the exercise where a total of 300 orphans were carefully screened and selected for the historic scheme for the fallen heroes who lost their lives while fighting the Boko Haram insurgency.
He added that the parents and guardians of the slain CJTF and vigilante hunters cooperated and supported, resulting in the presentation of the 300 orphans for the scholarships and welfare packages.
In his goodwill message, the Theater Commander, JTF Operation Hadin Kai, Theater Command Headquarters Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri, Maj.- Gen Chris G. Musa commended the governor for his initiative and support to the CJTF, hunters and vigilante groups for complementing the efforts of the military in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency credibly.
Earlier, the Managing Director/CEO, North East Development Commission (NEDC), Alhaji Goni Usman Alkali, in his remarks thanked the governor for his initiative and efforts while assuring that the commission would continue to play its role in giving hope to the hopeless.
