The Governor of Borno state, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, Thursday, requested the assistance of the management of Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) for the extension of 132Kv lines from Maiduguri to other parts of the state.
Zulum, who spoke on Thursday when he paid a courtesy on the management of the NDPHC in Abuja, said the call became imperative because his people needed electricity to boost their economic activities.
He called for the completion of Kashim Bila and Dadin Kowa – 40MW hydro power project, saying that the state is endowed with sunshine of between 12 to 13 hours daily that will support solar power system in the area.
Zulum, who sought the support of NDPHC for the actualization of the project, urged it to consider the rehabilitation of the 30MW Power distribution plants established in the 1970’s and 80”s to provide energy requirement for the Lake Chad area of the state.
According to him, there are over two million internally displaced people in the state, pointing out that Borno requires more distribution injection substation of 15MVA capacity in several locations across the state.
He, however, commended the management of Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) led by Mr. Chiedu Ugbo on its achievements in the area of power infrastructure development in Nigeria.
Earlier, NDPHC MD/CEO, Mr Chiedu Ugbo, said his agency has its presence in the state with constitution of 75MVA distribution injection substation in Lassa and Bama town respectively.
He added that another distribution injection substation was delivered by NDPHC at the University Teaching Hospital in Maiduguri.
Ugbo said NDPHC would work with Yola electricity Distribution Company under whose jurisdiction Borno state falls to address the request of the state.
